Mindful Photography

It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart and head.
— Henri Cartier Bresson

Why Mindful Photography for connection and community?

In an era of remote work, teams or groups spread across time zones and limited opportunity to connect on an individual level, mindful photography offers a time for unique self expression, inward reflection, gratitude and connection to others. Finding meaning and purpose through photographic exercises can lead to increased sense of self, and connection to joy and happiness.

Positive Impacts

Engaging in a series of mindful photography explorations has benefits for participants beyond the sessions themselves. Emerging research suggests that by experiencing mindful photography sessions there can be lasting impacts including:

  • Increased self knowledge, awareness of environment, and self-efficacy

  • Allows individuals to express emotions, fostering community building

  • Focussing on personal strengths, wellbeing, and happiness have proven to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety by encouraging reflection on positive moments

  • Increased life satisfaction when engaging in mindful photography activities over several sessions

Accessibility

Mindful photography is not about creating high quality images. No experience is needed and the activities can be completed with simple equipment and created from everyday experiences, no need to travel.

  • Personal cellphone camera or point and click digital camera

  • IN PERSON - Disposable cameras using analog film

  • Activities can be undertaken just about anywhere including; at home, office, urban, rural or nature based locations
